If anything the Empyrean mid-range is a little more lively or vivid of the two because of that little tilt forward with the leather pads. They deliver a very enjoyable rich and pleasing tone which is so easy to love. That means a high performance without needing amplification but more on that later.

The sound stage width and depth its layering and the separation of notes and instruments is wonderful. It comes in at 430g but with its superb weight distribution it sincerely feels like the lightest headphone Ive ever worn. Body-wise everything is identical to the solid state output.

Then the ear-cups spring-back mechanism in tandem with the plush pads make for a low clamp force listening experience. Vocals and especially percussion presence on the leather pad Empyrean sound a little more forward and realistic than the Ether 2s slightly warmer and more euphonic-sounding mids and lower treble signature.
